E-collars are super important to prevent dogs from licking their wounds, this can seriously delay wound healing after surgery and can result in infection or injury. It’s vital that this collar is used, especially when the dog is unattended and could inadvertently injure itself. Something that we hear a lot of as veterinarians is how difficult it must be to diagnose an animal that is unable to tell you it’s symptoms. Animals in fact do communicate with an array of cues, gestures and behaviors which speak a language louder than words itself but it’s up to us to learn it! Knowing & responding to their emotions and needs will strengthen your bond with your companion animal, provide greater safety (with people and other animals) and will create a more well-balanced happy pet.
